Testnet beta · test coins only, no real value

Your Zcash wallet. Your keys, your phone.

Laurel's Home screen on the testnet build: a balance of 12.50 TAZ, all of it private, a row of Send, Receive, Shield, Scan and Fund buttons, and the network status showing Testnet

The Home screen, from the testnet build. TAZ test coins have no value.

Laurel is a self-custodial Zcash wallet for Android. Your recovery phrase is created on your phone, your keys stay there, and there's no account to make. Right now it's a testnet beta: it only works with test coins.

Android 9 or newer with Google Play. Not available in mainland China or sanctioned countries.

Laurel's backup screen: 24 numbered words in three columns (here a public test phrase), the wallet birthday, and an I've Written It Down button

Made on your phone, never sent

Your recovery phrase

Laurel creates your 24 words from your phone's own random number generator. They're shown so you can write them down, and your wallet files stay on the device, encrypted with a key protected by your password. We don't get a copy. That also means we can't recover it for you, so the paper copy matters.

Laurel's Receive screen on the testnet build: a QR code for a shielded testnet address, a Copy Address button, and options for a new address, a payment request or another address type

Shielded receiving

Get paid with one QR

Laurel gives you shielded receiving addresses, where the amount and the addresses aren't public on the blockchain. Transparent addresses and private-key sweeps stay public. Add a memo when you send, and it travels with the payment.

Laurel's History screen on the testnet build: filters for All, Received, Sent and Moves, and payments grouped by day, including a move to Ironwood

Everything in one place

History that makes sense

Every payment, with filters for what you're looking for. Keep contacts so you don't paste addresses by hand, add private notes to any payment, and move money between Zcash's pools when you want to.

Your server, if you want

By default Laurel picks a public Zcash server run by a third party. You can set your own instead, and then Laurel uses only that one.

Screens kept to yourself

Laurel blocks screenshots and the app-switcher preview of its screens, and keeps its data out of Android backups and device transfers.

Nothing goes to us.
Here's the receipt.

  1. 1No account. There's nothing to sign up for, so there's nothing for us to lock, freeze or read.
  2. 2No analytics. Laurel sends its publisher nothing: no crash reports, no usage data, no identifiers.
  3. 3Third parties, listed. To work, Laurel talks to a Zcash server, and to a few other services only if you turn those features on. The receipt shows who sees what.

SENT TO USNOTHING

The short version. The full list is in the privacy policy.

Built the way we'd want a wallet to work.

Honest about what we can't do

We hold no keys and no funds. We can't recover a lost phrase, freeze anything or reverse a payment, so we never pretend we can.

Keys that never leave

Your phrase and keys are created and kept on your phone. Wallet files are encrypted with a key protected by your password.

We never message you first

Nobody from Laurel will ever ask for your recovery phrase. Anyone who does is a scammer, whatever they claim.

Prices are opt-in

Price data and alerts are off until you turn them on, so Laurel doesn't contact a price service unless you ask it to.

Tested before real money

The beta runs on Zcash's test network, so testers can break things with coins worth nothing before any real money is involved.

Built on open source

Laurel builds on zingolib, an open-source (MIT) Zcash library by ZingoLabs. It isn't affiliated with or endorsed by ZingoLabs. Laurel's own source isn't published yet.

Can I use Laurel with real ZEC?

Not yet. This build only works on Zcash's test network, with test coins (TAZ) that have no monetary value, and it refuses to open the main network. Never enter a recovery phrase that holds real money.

How do I join the beta?

Email [email protected] with your Google account email. We'll add you to the testing track on Google Play and send you the link. You need an Android 9 or newer phone with Google Play. The beta isn't available in mainland China or in countries under sanctions.

Has Laurel been audited?

Not independently, yet. That's one of the reasons this is a testnet beta. A version for real money comes only after an independent security audit.

I lost my recovery phrase. Can you help?

We can't. We never have a copy of your phrase or keys. Without your phrase, or another working copy of your wallet, recovery may be impossible. That's why Laurel asks you to write the phrase down.

Will you ever ask for my recovery phrase?

Never. We don't message people first, and nobody legitimate needs your phrase. If someone asks for it, by email, in Discord or anywhere else, it's a scam.

Where's the official download?

Only the Google Play testing link we send you. laurel.cash is Laurel's only official website. Don't install Laurel from anywhere else.

I found a security problem. Who do I tell?

Email [email protected]. We'll thank you, fix it, and credit you if you'd like.
